Barack Obama has thin skin. In a private meeting with lawmakers over arming Syrian rebels, Obama belittled the idea that he should have armed the opposition to the brutal dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad, saying, “This idea that we could provide some light arms or even more sophisticated arms to what was essentially an opposition made up of former doctors, farmers, pharmacists and so forth, and that they were going to be able to battle not only a well-armed state but also a well-armed state backed by Russia, backed by Iran, a battle-hardened Hezbollah — that was never in the cards.” He added that the suggestion was “horses—t.” It’s proof this guy has never read a history book. What does he think happened in Afghanistan during the 1980s? Peasants with Kalashnikovs beat one of the most powerful conventional militaries on the planet. He also might be unaware that “doctors, farmers, pharmacists and so forth” were the tireless minority who took up arms and won our independence from the 18th century’s greatest empire. If he wants to argue there wasn’t really a large enough moderate element in Syria, then he’d have a point. But his actual excuse is just, well, horses—t. More…
