Israel’s relationship with the Obama administration may have chilled during the conflict with Hamas, but Israel’s relationship with Congress and the U.S. military is still strong. While the nations’ administrations bickered, Israel kept talking to the Pentagon and received munitions like 120-mm mortar shells and 40-mm illuminating rounds. The Wall Street Journal reports, “Since then the Obama administration has tightened its control on arms transfers to Israel. But Israeli and U.S. officials say that the adroit bureaucratic maneuvering made it plain how little influence the White House and State Department have with the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – and that both sides know it.” Whatever damage the Obama administration does with foreign policy, the relationship with Israel continues to stand.
