In his weekly address, Barack Obama talked about the rising cost of college education. The subject is on everyone’s minds as students return to class for the fall. College education is important, he said, because “higher education is the surest ticket to the middle class.” He’s right about that in many ways, though in his so-called economic “recovery,” a college education isn’t nearly as good an indicator of finding a job as it used to be. He also said something that puzzled us greatly: “[A]s long as college costs keep rising,” Obama warned, “we can’t just keep throwing money at the problem.” Wait a minute. Throwing money around is his solution to nearly every problem, so what’s he going to do now?
