Obama Sticks to 2016 Afghanistan Drawdown

Barack Obama is stubbornly sticking to his plan to pull U.S. Troops from Afghanistan by 2016 – even though it’s the same strategy he used in Iraq. A senior administration official told The New York Times, “People have said [to Obama], ‘Doesn’t this show that you should never take the troops out of Afghanistan?’ He said, ‘No, it actually points to the imperative of having political accommodation. There’s a limit to what we can achieve absent a political process.’” While the Nobel Peace Prize weighs heavy on the president, Obama is only partially correct. Only when the Afghanistan government is sound should the U.S. leave. It’s the best strategy for maximum peace and security. But Obama’s legacy and responsibility ends in 2016. More…
