The Patriot Post® · Because of ISIL, the Border Is an Immediate Security Threat
It is possible for the Islamic State of Syria and the Levant (ISIL, or ISIS depending on who you ask) to easily slip into the United States through the southern border. Texas Governor Rick Perry warned, “There’s the obvious great concern that because of the condition of the border from the standpoint of it not being secure and us not knowing who is penetrating across, that individuals from ISIS or other terrorist states could be [crossing the border].” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey agrees, saying the jihadi group is an “immediate threat” because of the open border. However, Rear Admiral John Kirby, Pentagon press secretary, insisted, “I’ve seen no indication that they are coming across the border with Mexico.” He conceded, “[W]e do know they have aspirations to hit western targets,” and that “we have to try to be ready for it.” It appears for the moment that ISIL is stuck naval-gazing at its current conquests.
