Police Officer Killed, Media Ignore Race

Rochester, New York, Police Officer Daryl Pierson, 32, was shot and killed last Wednesday, allegedly by Thomas Johnson III. The incident had a racial element, but most people could be forgiven for never hearing about this story, ignored as it has been by the 24-hour news media. In fact, media reports that are available only mention the race of those involved by way of pictures. Pierson was white; Johnson is black. Johnson was wanted for a parole violation and fled a traffic stop made by Pierson and his partner, Michael DiPaola. There have been no riots or looting in Rochester, and no appearances by Attorney General Eric Holder or eulogies by Al Sharpton.
