Nancy Pelosi understands something: Her enemies must be stopped. In fact, the stakes are high. “Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy” if they win, she warned. ISIL is indeed a threat, but that’s not who Pelosi was referring to. Republicans are the real threat. Her full quote: “It would be very important for the Democrats to retain control of the Senate. Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if Republicans win the Senate.” Of course, Pelosi was on Bill Maher’s HBO show and was clearly joking (in her awkward way) about civilization. But we also suspect she wasn’t entirely kidding. She has complained the GOP will paralyze Barack Obama’s wondrous agenda, they are indifferent to the poor, they oppose things like clean water, and that, at best, they have no ideas. We sense a pattern.
