When it was first launched, Healthcare.gov contained huge security holes and the government knew it. As Americans blithely gave the website sensitive fact after sensitive fact, the Department of Health and Human Services was working behind the scenes to secure the site that was ripe for the hacking. But the privacy of millions of Americans was not a priority. According to 94 pages worth of records about the security of Healthcare.gov released by Judicial Watch, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) prioritized security holes that would “cause substantial harm to CMS business processes. Significant political, financial and legal damage is likely to result.” In other words, appearances and the political process first. Security and service second.
