The Patriot Post® · Obama to NFL: You Need 'Zero Tolerance'

Having solved most of the world’s problems, Barack Obama turned his attention to one of the few remaining trouble spots: the NFL. In the wake of recent stories of players beating girlfriends or abusing children, the NFL is reeling from bad publicity brought on by poor disciplinary action, real and perceived. CBS News reports, “The White House Thursday sternly told the NFL that ‘it’s important that the league get a handle’ on players who commit child abuse and domestic violence and that the league must ‘have a zero tolerance’ regarding those issues.” We’ve often said “zero tolerance” is not good practice because it doesn’t allow for the circumstantial judgment. But furthermore, in a constitutional republic, the criminal activity of a few players in a sports league should be no concern of the nation’s chief executive.
