The Patriot Post® · Obama's Letter to Congress on Syria Strikes

In keeping with the War Powers Resolution, Barack Obama sent a letter to Congress Tuesday outlining U.S. airstrikes in Syria, specifically “against al-Qa'ida and associated forces.” Obama mentions the Khorasan Group, and says attacking them is “necessary to defend the United States.” It’s noteworthy that Obama neglected to mention ISIL in his letter. We suspect the reason may be the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force was against al-Qaida, not ISIL. Perhaps he’s narrowly tailoring his letter to fit under authority he can already claim, rather than asking for new authority to attack ISIL.
