Does President Barack Obama need congressional authorization to attack ISIL? Senator Barack Obama would’ve probably said, “Yes.” Former White House advisor David Axelrod said, “I suspect that Senator Obama would have been of those pressing for a debate and a vote on this. And so it’s interesting. When a guy becomes president of the United States, he’s invested with the responsibility of being commander in chief. You have to make different judgments because the politics can get very difficult.” On the one hand, Axelrod has a point. The commander in chief is responsible for the national security of the U.S., whereas a senator can get away with nonsensical stump speeches that don’t take this into account. But his comments also highlight Obama’s hypocritical “do as I say, not as I do” approach to governance. More…
