The boots of American soldiers have touched the ground in Liberia to build treatment camps. The moment should have happened months ago, according to Evangelical Christian aid group Samaritan’s Purse. Ken Isaacs, the group’s vice president of programs and government relations who is heading the Ebola response in Liberia, said, “There is no argument the disease is out in front of the response. Where we are today is where we should have been 60 to 90 days ago.” The Center for Disease Control says the exponential growth of the disease can only be stopped when 70% of the victims can reach treatment facilities. Only 18% can find a bed. But that depends, in part, on doctors and nurses from around the world willing to travel to a developing land and risk contacting a disease that has a 50% survival rate. More…
