A report by the FBI found that between the years 2000 and 2013, a total of 418 people perished from 64 mass shootings. “To be clear, no one wants to see even one life lost to tragedy,” writes Breitbart’s AWR Hawkins, but a little perspective exposes the astounding callousness of how the various networks reported this finding. Citing a study by the CDC, Hawkins reports that there “were 800 deaths by bicycle in 2010 alone.” In other words, in 1/14th the time, bicycle fatalities nearly doubled the number of homicides inflicted through mass shootings. Additionally, “[T]here were 26,009 deaths from ‘falling’ for [2010] alone.” In a separate piece, Hawkins notes there were “580 murders committed with fire from 2006 through 2011 alone,” according to FBI statistics, and “there were 4,873 murders committed with ‘personal weapons’ like ‘feet’ and ‘fists’ and 10,769 murders committed with ‘knives and cutting instruments’ from 2006 through 2011 alone.” These are the facts.
