Scientists claim to have found another disturbing phenomenon linked to global warming, and this one may lift you off your feet. Literally. According to researchers, ice melt between 2009 and 2012 influenced earth’s gravitation. “Scientists based the finding upon measurements made by the agency's GOCE satellite, which from 2009 to 2013 used new technology to map the Earth’s gravitational field in unprecedented detail,” writes Discovery News’ Patrick J. Kiger. Now for the most interesting part. We’re not talking about Arctic ice. No, scientists are referring to the West Antarctic ice sheet – you know, an area connected to the continent experiencing exponential ice growth. Meteorologist Anthony Watts recently noted, “Antarctic Sea Ice Extent for September 19th, 2014 [was] 20.11297 million square kilometers, which is 1,535,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 climatological mean.” So while the continent as a whole is breaking all kinds of records, and ice growth has been trending up for decades, scientists are cherry picking one underachieving area to clamor alarm.
