Early this summer, political analyst George Will argued the so-called epidemic of sexual assault on college campuses was overblown. Not an imagined problem, just exaggerated – in part because the term “sexual assault” had been so expanded as to be virtually meaningless. Will has been under assault himself ever since. Recently, he was invited to speak at Scripps College – and then uninvited after controversy erupted surrounding his analysis. According to the Claremont Independent, Will “was slated to speak at the ninth annual Elizabeth Hubert Malott Public Affairs Program, the mission of which is to bring speakers to campus whose political views differ from the majority of students at the all-women’s college, but had his invitation rescinded after he wrote a column about sexual assault on college campuses.” In other words, he was supposed to speak from a differing viewpoint but was uninvited because of his differing viewpoint.
