Oh where in the world is Dr. Nicole Lurie? She’s supposedly the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response for the Department of Health and Human Services. In the words of National Journal, “Lurie’s job is to plan for the unthinkable. A global flu pandemic? She has a plan. A bioterror attack? She’s on it. Massive earthquake? Yep. Her responsibilities as assistant secretary span public health, global health, and homeland security.” Gee, don’t you think that also covers Ebola? As HHS’s expert on the unthinkable, she was not listed to give testimony at the House’s recent hearing on the response to the Ebola outbreak. Furthermore, as Mollie Hemingway reports, Lurie is not giving interviews or statements to the press regarding the Ebola outbreak. The last we heard from this Obama administration employee, she was in the middle of a scandal in 2011 because she gifted a $433 million drug development deal to a long-time Democrat donor. And this is where it gets painfully ironic. Because that money was diverted from Chimerix, a biopharmaceutical company that was developing the drug now used in the United States to fight Ebola. More…
