In an interview with the New Yorker, Barack Obama dashed any hopes that he might one day wear a black robe on the Supreme Court bench. “I love the law, intellectually,” the president said. The New Yorker noted he seemed “tempted” by the idea a spot on the Court. “I love nutting out these problems, wrestling with these arguments,” Obama said. “I love teaching. I miss the classroom and engaging with students. But I think being a justice is a little bit too monastic for me. Particularly after having spent six years and what will be eight years in this bubble, I think I need to get outside a little bit more.” Obama was once a “constitutional law professor” in Chicago, though his interpretation of the document stands the Founders’ vision on its head. Now that he’s president, in fact, his most common policy is to ignore it altogether. As far as the Court being “too monastic,” perhaps he’d miss all the presidential parties – popping the cork on the bubbly in the bubble, if you will.
