In July, Barack Obama defended his decision to forgo a visit to our southern border as a flood of future Democrat voters, er, illegal minors crossed into the United States. “This isn’t theater,” he declared. “This is a problem. I’m not interested in photo ops [emphasis added].” That assertion is as ridiculous now as it was then. According to CBS News’ White House correspondent Mark Knoller, “Still photographers [on Friday] said they heard President Obama tell Nurse Nina Pham words to the effect of: ‘Let’s give a hug for the cameras.’” Now, as Washington Times reporter Kevin Rogers points out, the photo was “certainly a reassuring image for Ebola-panicked Americans.” But “it might have been nicer if it was a bit less calculated and a bit more genuine.” Unfortunately, nothing this president says or does is genuine, because, in the words of former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, the narcissist in chief never lets “a good crisis to go to waste.” Whether or not he stages a photo op depends on the political expediency of the situation.
