When about 20 citizens cast their early vote in Maryland, the voting machines changed their vote from the Republican candidate to the Democrat one. Maryland Republican delegate Nicholaus Kipke said, “We’ve heard from scores of citizens in our district and around the state who have had this problem where they hit one button to vote for one person, and when they go to the summary they see that the other person was checked.” Fellow Republican delegate Kathy Szeliga added, “I kept pushing the Republican guy’s name and the machine kept going beep, beep, beep.” This is the second time this election season that a voting machine had some technical aversion to letting the citizen cast his or her intended vote. A voting machine in Illinois showed the same problem last week. The Chicago Board of Elections blamed old voting technology. Maryland’s State Board of Elections blames voter error.
