Bill Burton, Democrat political consultant and former spokesman for Barack Obama, offered his two cents on why Democrats were shellacked this election. No, it wasn’t Obama’s policies. And it wasn’t because the leftists marginally interested in politics stayed home Election Day either. No, for Burton, it comes down to racism. “Democrats are never going to win in midterms if we don’t figure out how to talk to white voters. I don’t think that the message that we have has been able to really translate to the coalition of voters that helped bring Republicans into even more power.” And just what will tickle the ears of white people? Oh, we don’t know, maybe the same things that matter to blacks, Latinos and other minorities – namely life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
