The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has waffled on whether it will spend money in support of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) in her runoff bid this December. Landrieu led the field in Louisiana’s “jungle primary,” but she faced two Republicans, who together won 200,000 more votes than she did. In other words, her chances of retaining her seat are a long shot. Despite this outlook, the DSCC has decided it will throw some money down the drain. “Today, I’m joining with colleagues and allies around the country to give Mary’s team the resources they need for a 30-day dash to the finish,” DSCC chair Sen. Michael Bennet wrote. “Help us get out the vote in Louisiana – join our moneybomb and support Mary today. … [W]e need her back in the Senate.” On the other side, retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness, who ran as the Tea Party candidate, has thrown his support behind Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy. We’re pleased to see the two working together and avoiding the GOP fratricidal infighting that plagued the party in 2012.
