The big-government attempt to slap a tax on items bought and sold over the Internet died as Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) will not bring the bill forward. Boehner’s spokesman, Kevin Smith, said, “The speaker has made clear in the past he has significant concerns about the bill, and it won’t move forward this year. The Judiciary Committee continues to examine the measure and the broader issue. In the meantime, the House and Senate should work together to extend the moratorium on Internet taxation without further delay.” As we’ve said before, this tax was an attempt by large retailers to chill the online marketplace, using government to leverage the playing field in their advantage.
