In August it was revealed that the federal government is behind Truthy, a taxpayer-funded project used “to detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution.” It wasn’t difficult to see where this was heading. The point man is a proud leftist, who we now know provided evidence that conservative Twitter users were specifically targeted for suspension. Courtesy of The Washington Free Beacon, an update to this story: “The web service has been used to track tweets using hashtags such as #tcot (Top Conservatives on Twitter), and was successful in getting accounts associated with conservatives suspended, according to a 2012 book co-authored by the project’s lead researcher, Filippo Menczer, a professor of Informatics and Computer Science at Indiana University.” Menczer claims that progressives were watched too – though, we’re hardly surprised to say, their accounts were never suspended. Say, that sounds awfully similar to the IRS scandal. Unfortunately, Truthy is another obscure instrument being used by the Left to shut down conservative voices. More…
