Second-year Obamacare enrollment began over the weekend with hardly a fraction of the troubles that plagued last year’s formal launch. But while the technical glitches may not be as bad, Americans’ distaste for the law continues to grow, reaching a new low in approval according to a poll released today. Gallup found, “As the Affordable Care Act’s second open enrollment period begins, 37% of Americans say they approve of the law, one percentage point below the previous low in January. Fifty-six percent disapprove, the high in disapproval by one point.” Breaking it down by party, 74% of Democrats approve, compared to only 8% of Republicans and 33% of Independents. All are down from their peaks of 83%, 41% and 12%, respectively. In the aftermath of Democrats’ Election Day shellacking, it’s clear that, as Barack Obama bluntly said, “[My] policies are on the ballot.” Look for disapproval ratings to rise even more as sticker shock, health plan terminations and fines for non-compliance worsen.
