The State Department has finally clarified whether or not it was considering slapping sanctions on Israel for its settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. State spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Dec. 8, “I can set the record straight and be clear that reports that we might be contemplating sanctions against Israel are completely unfounded and without merit.” But when asked if the State Department and the White House ever considered sanctions or Israel, Psaki said her comment “has been consistently true.” Why couldn’t the spokespeople say that in the first place? With a deteriorating relationship with Israel, State and the White House maybe wanted the country to sweat a bit – not a way to treat a friend. More…
