A St. Louis city police officer that wore an arm patch in solidarity with Officer Darren Wilson faces discipline, or in the words of his police chief, “some days off for his actions.” He wore the patch on duty when protesters, angry that Wilson was not indicted for shooting Michael Brown, showed up at city hall. Business manager for the St. Louis Police Officers’ Association Jeff Roorda said, “[A] police officer does nothing more than wear another officer’s name on his sleeve, an officer who has been exonerated of any wrongdoing, and is being told that his passive statement is constitutionally prohibited free speech. There is something wrong with this picture.” However, police officers keep law and order and when they police protests, they must remain neutral. What if a police officer wore an Obama sticker while presiding over a political rally?
