For the first time, a Pentagon spokesman used the word “Daesh” to describe ISIL. “Our partners, at least the ones that I work with, ask us to use that [name] because they feel that if you use ISIL that you legitimize a self-declared caliphate, and actually they feel pretty strongly that we should not be doing that,” said Army Lt. Gen. James L. Terry, commander of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. ISIL stands for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, and it spells out the jihadis’ intent to take over vast swaths of the Middle East. “Daesh is why we are here,” Terry continued. “Daesh uses terror and fear to dominate people and reward themselves. It has demonstrated time and time again a disregard for life and humanity. It has also openly stated intentions to apply its trademark barbaric methods not only regionally, but globally as well.” We’re afraid that, his reasoning notwithstanding, this is a bow to political correctness – doing anything to avoid using the word “Islamic” when referencing terrorists. The Obama administration continues to go to great lengths to deny any connection between the Religion of Peace™ and what’s happening in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere.
