Fresh for the holidays, Green-Mountain-State-founded company Ben & Jerry’s just released a seasonal ice cream flavor that perfectly describes Vermont’s nutty aspiration to create the nation’s first single-payer health care system: Peanut Butter Half Baked. After firing ObamaCare architect Jonathan “Stupid Americans” Gruber and after the federal government gave the small state $150 million less than it asked to get the contraption started, Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin admitted Green Mountain Care would have sucked too much green from the Birkenstock-wearing, granola crunching Vermonters. “These are simply not tax rates that I can responsibly support or urge the Legislature to pass,” Shumlin said. “In my judgment, the potential economic disruption and risks would be too great to small businesses, working families and the state’s economy.” When it comes to your health, it’s probably best to walk away from both Peanut Butter Half Baked and the Peanut Butter Half Baked health care plan.
