House Speaker John Boehner put down a small and disorganized uprising Tuesday, as 25 Republicans voted against him for the speaker’s post. Well, as Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, “When you strike at a King, you must kill him.” Before Tuesday was over, some of the rebellious Republicans had been stripped of committee assignments and, Politico reports, “That could be just the start of payback for the speaker’s betrayers, who might see subcommittee chairmanships and other perks fall away in the coming months.” Of course, the leftist Politico would love nothing more than to foment further GOP infighting. No doubt the vote and the retaliation will bruise some egos, but we’ll say it again: Republicans should focus on the bigger fight, and that is against Obama and the Democrats.
