Speaker of the House John Boehner broke out the Washington jujitsu to claim that he was non-establishment, even though he’s the leader of the House, a kinda big deal in Washington last time we checked. “It does pain me to be described as spineless, or a squish,” Boehner said. “And I tell you what pains me the most is when they describe me as the establishment. Now, I’m the most anti-establishment speaker we’ve ever had. Who’s the guy that got rid of earmarks? Me. Who’s the guy who believes in regular order? Me. Who believes in allowing more members to participate in the process, from both sides of the aisle? Me.” Out of the list, ridding Washington of blatant earmarks is the only remotely anti-establishment, conservative accomplishment he touts. Any other networked speaker worth their salt would say they have done the other two. And what should we call the Republican representatives that voted against him because he temporarily funded Obama’s executive action on immigration? Anarchists? Boehner has two years before the next major election to actually make good on his assessment of himself. More…
