The City of King, North Carolina, removed a statue of American soldier kneeling before a cross-shaped gravestone because the Americans United for Separation of Church and State sued the town. Instead of taking the fight to court – which could cost the town $2 million – King settled with the atheist activists for a half-million dollars. And the local veteran who originally complained? He got $1. After the atheist group rode into town and collected its money, City Councilman Wesley Carter told a local newspaper, “I feel this city has been sabotaged and bullied by folks who don’t believe in what this community stands for. I feel like we have been pressured by insurance companies and attorneys who have never been to King.
