Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is the latest politician to take a bow to political correctness. He will no longer call the Islamic State by it’s common names (Islamic State, ISIL or ISIS), opting instead for “Daesh.” He explained, “Daesh hates being referred to by this term, and what they don’t like has an instinctive ­appeal to me. I absolutely refuse to refer to it by the title that it claims for itself [Islamic State], because I think this is a perversion of religion and a travesty of governance.” It’s one thing to tweak the group with a name they don’t like, but once again, a Western politician is trying to define Islam – ISIL is a “perversion,” he says. U.S. Army Lt. Gen. James L. Terry, commander of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, likewise used Daesh last month, and Secretary of State John Kerry has used the term on occasion.
