If the shooting of Michael Brown was the spark that ignited the “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” protests, liberal financier George Soro was the gasoline that soaked through the whole issue. The Washington Times reports that last year, Soros gave $33 million to leftist groups, sometimes earmarking the money to specifically fund the protests in Ferguson. The Times reports, “The plethora of organizations involved not only shared Mr. Soros’ funding, but they also fed off each other, using content and buzzwords developed by one organization on another’s website, referencing each other’s news columns and by creating a social media echo chamber of Facebook ‘likes’ and Twitter hashtags that dominated the mainstream media and personal online newsfeeds.” Soros or his organization did not direct the protesters, but his money permeated the issue. This might explain, in part, why Ferguson became a lightning rod: Liberal groups were playing off each other to keep a shooting blown out of proportion front and center in the pubic’s attention. More…
