The Obama administration’s trade of five Guantanamo Bay prisoners for Bowe Bergdahl may have caused the administration to default to releasing detained terrorists for Americans. Recently, a sleeper agent for al-Qaida, who was captured in 2001 at the dawn of the War on Terror, may have been traded for an American couple. The Daily Beast reports, “The proposed swap involving the al Qaeda agent, Ali Saleh Al-Marri, raises troubling questions about whether the Bergdahl trade opened a kind of Pandora’s box, signaling to foreign governments that they can pressure the United States to make concessions on terrorism by trading American prisoners abroad for dangerous extremists held in the United States.” According to Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), the Obama administration is defaulting to emptying the prison cells for dangerous jihadists captured to keep America safe instead of exploring other tactics to free captured Americans.
