Oh, to be a coveted member of the DC political club! It certainty makes the police more… understanding. Former host of NBC’s “Meet The Press” David Gregory spoke with NRA’s Wayne LaPierre after the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. To illustrate the topic, Gregory showed a rifle magazine that held more than 10 rounds. But here’s the problem: It’s illegal in the great District of Columbia to even possess a standard-capacity magazine, let alone fill it with ammunition and attach it to gasp! a receiver. As that mag sat in Gregory’s hand, it was no more dangerous than a paperweight. So it’s ridiculous that DC police filed for the arrest of Gregory. But it’s even more ridiculous what happened next. William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection writes, “The short version is that the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department warned NBC News that it could not possess an actual high-capacity magazine, but NBC News went ahead and did it anyway. The MPD recommended a warrant for Gregory’s arrest, but that request was nixed by the D.C. Attorney General Irvin Nathan because – my paraphrase – Gregory was just too nice a guy and had no other criminal intent.” But we’re sure there’re other nice guys who happen to live in DC who don’t have their own television show that protects them from the draconian gun laws.
