For the fourth time since its passage, the House voted this week to repeal ObamaCare. This time, things are different, as Republicans control the Senate. In the past, Sen. Harry Reid would block the legislation from ever arriving on the Senate floor. Robert Moffit writes for The Daily Signal that the Senate should take up the legislation, even though the measure is still symbolic. (Does anyone really think Obama would do anything but veto legislation that repeals his crowning legacy?) They should do this anyway, Moffit writes, because it puts every lawmaker on the record as to whether they support a boondoggle of a law that grows more burdensome every month. Three House Republicans voted against a repeal, though. Rep. Robert Dold (R-IL) justified his “no” vote by saying, “Casting yet another symbolic vote for full repeal of the law, without any replacement legislation, simply distracts us from the work that must be done to drive costs down, restore access to care and make healthcare work for everyone.” But, symbolic votes mean something, as the Senate’s recent vote asking senators if they believed climate change to be happening allowed the president to issue more executive orders regarding climate change. A vote on the “Affordable” Care Act puts Obama on notice.
