To further his political agenda, Barack Obama has turned to his phone, pen and now – plane. For most of his presidency, Obama has been known to eschew political schmoozing to spend introvert time at places like the golf course. But now Obama has turned to courting members of Congress in his lounge at 35,000 feet on Air Force One. Politico reports, “Since his party took brutal losses in the November elections, President Barack Obama has invited nearly 20 members of Congress to fly with him on Air Force One to state visits in India and Saudi Arabia, to Tennessee for the announcement of his free community college initiative, and to Nevada to promote his latest sweeping moves on immigration.” According to the story, the White House has started to prioritize such individual time with impressionable lawmakers. To sway Congress, Obama needs to impress. No longer is an invite to the Oval Office good enough. However, a ride on the world’s most expensive jet speaks of presidential power, luxury and importance.
