Kayla Mueller was an American kidnapped and held hostage by ISIL, before being killed while in ISIL custody. The jihadis claim she was killed by a Jordanian airstrike, but the truth may never be known. Either way, clearly Americans sympathize with her case, as Barack Obama claimed she represented an “irrepressible force of human goodness.” But the truth is a bit more complicated. Taking after Rachel Corrie, the American activist for the Palestinian “cause” killed by an Israeli bulldozer, Mueller was a member of the International Solidarity Movement (so was Corrie) and she was in the Middle East in the first place because of her Palestinian sympathies. She wrote of alleged Israeli atrocities and served as a human shield for terrorists – she was essentially what Vladimir Lenin once called a “useful idiot.” It’s a terrible thing that she lost her life for all that, but it was in some measure thanks to the choices she made.
