State Department Spokeswoman Marie Harf stuck her foot in her mouth when she said the way to defeat ISIL was to give the murderers, pillagers, slavers and rapists some good ol’ economic opportunity. See, if these jihadi cutthroats only had a job at a falafel shop or a McDonalds, then they’d turn from their barbarian ways. Harf, of course, was quickly called out for her ridiculous rhetoric, so she responded by blaming her audience, telling CNN’s Wolf Blitzer a few days later, “Look, it might be too nuanced of an argument for some like I’ve seen over the past 24 hours.” See? Harf says we rubes should just shut up. But National Review’s Deroy Murdock decided to test Harf’s theory that bad economies lead to terrorism. And when he compared a list of the 10 nations with the top terrorist activity to the 10 nations with the lowest GDP, only Somalia made both lists. So much for Harf’s “nuance.”
