It could be a primary clash that could rend the Republican Party: Jeb Bush has surrounded himself for his primary run with a staff that is in favor of same-sex marriage. This move could be a signal that Bush, who has supported traditional marriage in the past, may switch his stance ahead of the 2016 elections. “But inside Bush’s orbit, some believe his personal feelings on the subject may have evolved beyond his on-the-record statements,” Buzzfeed reports. “Three Republican supporters who have recently spoken with Bush as he’s blitzed the GOP fundraising circuit told BuzzFeed News they came away with the impression that on the question of marriage equality, he was supportive at best and agnostic at worst.” As Hot Air’s Allahpundit points out, this will alienate social conservatives from the GOP. Whatever this does to the party as a whole, it may be an effective strategy for Jeb, member of the Bush dynasty. In 2012, centrist Mitt Romney failed to convince conservatives he indeed was “severely conservative.” Instead, Bush may fully embrace the centrist label, as the country has become far more accepting (cowed?) on same-sex marriage.
