Director of National Intelligence James Clapper may want to reconsider his statement saying Americans who recently returned to the U.S. after fighting in the Syrian Civil War are “not involved in plotting” and are free to come back. At least some of the Americans still in Syria are involved in jihad. AFP reports an American by the name of Abu Dawud al-Amriki joined ISIL and launched a suicide attack against Iraqi forces. ISIL claims the former U.S. citizen took a dozen of so Iraqi soldiers when he detonated an explosive-filled truck during the battle of Tikrit, but the act uncharacteristically lacks ISIL’s propaganda production. We guess an explosive end isn’t a compelling narrative with which to radicalize western Muslims. Furthermore, Clapper should realize that a couple weeks of watching 40-odd Americans is not enough time to determine if someone is a threat or not. Osama bin Laden was killed 10 years after 9/11, yet he still was plotting against the West until the end. No, European countries have the right idea to worry about Islamists returning home after waging jihad in the Middle East. More…
