The Patriot Post® · Generals Mulling Lethal Aid to Ukraine

A cease-fire failed twice in Ukraine. Sanctions didn’t slow the Great Bear’s proxy war with its smaller nation. Now, top U.S. generals are considering a risky next step to stop Russia from meddling with Ukraine: providing lethal aid to Ukraine to fight back rebels and Russia’s shadow army. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army General Martin Dempsey said, “I think we should absolutely consider providing lethal aid. And it ought to be in the context of our NATO allies because Putin’s ultimate objective is to fracture NATO.” He continued, “There are some capability gaps that put Ukrainian forces at a real disadvantage, and I think we ought to look for opportunities to provide those capabilities.” His strategy makes sense. While Russia has 12,000 of its soldiers on Ukrainian soil, Dempsey says the U.S. should give weapons to NATO, which will, in turn, give them to Ukraine – in effect playing Putin’s game of denial. Even Director of National Intelligence James Clapper – who has not exactly taken a hard line on national security with is recent comments – agrees with the strategy. More…
