Democrat legislators in Colorado’s’ Public Health Care and Human Service Committee snuffed a bill that would have protected babies born alive after a botched abortion. Sarah Zagorski, Director of Colorado Citizens for Life, said, “If passed, HB 1112 would have required abortionists to provide medical care for a child born alive during a failed abortion. Currently in Colorado, there are no state requirements instructing an abortionist to provide any type of medical attention to the infant. … The infants that would have been protected under HB 1112 are viable babies in the second and third trimester of pregnancy and deserve the highest quality medical care possible.” But in a 7-6, party-line vote, the Democrats shut down the bill. This is not a moral deficiency found among this particular strain of Colorado liberals. In 2002, a senator in the Illinois legislature also argued against a similar born alive bill.
