The Patriot Post® · Durbin: GOP Wants Lynch 'In the Back of the Bus'
Just when we think we’ve heard all the race-bait the Left can come up with… Dick Durbin, the third-ranking Democrat in the Senate, took to the floor Wednesday to blast Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Republicans for blocking Loretta Lynch’s nomination as attorney general. At issue is an anti-trafficking bill Democrats are blocking over abortion funding. McConnell responded by putting Lynch’s confirmation vote behind that bill. “And so,” declared Durbin, “Loretta Lynch, the first African-American woman nominated to be attorney general, is asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar. That is unfair. It’s unjust. It is beneath the decorum and dignity of the United States Senate. This woman deserves fairness.” We don’t know that there’s much beneath the decorum and dignity of the Senate these days, but if anyone would know, it’s Durbin. After all, he’s no stranger to blocking a nomination over race. When George W. Bush nominated Miguel Estrada as a federal judge, one of Durbin’s staffers warned that Estrada was “especially dangerous” because “he is Latino.” And then there was the time he compared the actions of American soldiers toward prisoners to “Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime – Pol Pot or others.” What was that about decorum and dignity again?
