Last week, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz brewed race controversy when he commissioned 200,000 employees to end racial discord once and for all. That is until this past weekend when Schultz abandoned the idea of writing “Race Together” on the company’s coffee cups after a flood of negative comments, though he says the campaign otherwise continues unabated. Predictably, the endeavor wasn’t embraced by everyone – including Starbucks workers. On Friday, National Review’s Katherine Timpf visited New York City baristas to hear what they had to say before their boss backtracked. To summarize, writes Timpf, “Open conversations about race can be a good thing, but, as it turns out, a crowded coffee shop with a line forming behind you isn’t exactly the best place to start them.” Imagine that.
