If you’re a fan of long showers, be prepared to hear from the Golden State’s nanny police. California is in the midst of a multi-year drought, which has Gov. Jerry Brown taking extreme measures. During ABC’s “This Week,” Brown expounded on an executive order to curb water usage across the state. “This executive order is done under emergency power,” he said. “It has the force of law. Very unusual. It’s requiring action and changes in behavior from the Oregon border all the way to the Mexican border. It affects lawns. It affects people’s – how long they stay in the shower. How businesses use water.” Usage will be monitored by the state water police, he explained. “We have a state water board that overseas the relationships with the districts. Hundreds of them. If they don’t comply, people can be fined $500 a day.” Being vigilant with water consumption amid an epic drought makes sense, but contradictions don’t. Last summer, a “Southern California couple received a letter from their city threatening a $500 penalty for not watering their brown lawn,” Fox News reported at the time. And last week, Dublin officials moved forward with a $35 million recreational water park project. Welcome to California – where the water flows both ways.
