The Leftmedia overplayed their hand when it came out condemning Indiana for its Religious Freedom Restoration Act — headlines blaring that the law was discriminatory. There’re always at least two sides to every story, and Reuters found just how Americans were split on Indiana’s RFRA in its recent poll. Reuters reports, “The poll found solid opposition to allowing businesses to refuse services or refuse to hire people or groups based on religious beliefs. Fifty-four percent said it was wrong for businesses to refuse services, while 28 percent said they should have that right. And 55 percent said businesses should not have the right to refuse to hire certain people or groups based on the employer’s religious beliefs, while 27 percent said businesses should have the right.” Admittedly, it sounds like Reuters used a leading question, which taints results. However, it’s discouraging to see how large a majority of Americans think the right of religious liberty is not absolute. The best way to treat constitutional rights is to interpret them with strict scrutiny, which restricts government intrusion into citizens’ lives as much as possible. Instead, those polled seem to assume government is the best way muscle part of a culture with which they disagree. More…
