National Review’s Jim Geraghty wants to “get the bad news out of the way first.” Hillary Clinton is going to be formidable because there’s a built-in base of support. “If Hillary Clinton did nothing between now and Election Day … no interviews, no public appearances, refused to show up to any debates, taped no commercials or videos, and just sat in her house in Chappaqua for the next 20 months … she would still do pretty well,” Geraghty warns. “For perspective, in 2014, Republicans demolished Democrats in the House races. (This is a nice measurement because every district in America holds a House race, while only some states were holding Senate or gubernatorial races.) The Republicans won, 52 percent to 45 percent. So in a year where just about everything possible went wrong for Democrats, they finished with 45 percent. Mitt Romney’s 47 percent comment had a kernel of truth about the fairly high floor for a Democratic candidate.” What that means for the GOP candidate is making a convincing case for Liberty, not stopping with a carefully manicured pitch for more competent management.
