The Obama administration wants to assure itself that it left a stable government in Iraq when it pulled U.S. troops from the conflict in 2011. It’s left in a dilemma this week as Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi visited Washington to personally ask for more money and bombs. On one hand, the Obama administration wants to ensure that ISIL does not win this war. But if the U.S. gives arms, it is propping up a shaky government that will not defeat ISIL until it resolves its internal issues. But the U.S. may not need to deal with the dilemma. Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey writes, “The Peshmerga have fought so effectively that ISIS has raised the prospect of a cease-fire with Kurdish forces, but given the risk, the Kurds are not likely to agree. Totten wonders why the US has not worked more directly with their natural allies in the region in order to push back more powerfully against ISIS.” Here’s the question to ask: What is Iraq saying to Iran?
