The Patriot Post® · Commencement Lineup Illustrates Problem With Today's Academia
May traditionally means lots of commencements addresses for new graduates who are preparing to take on real world challenges. Unfortunately, many of them will graduate feeling entitled to certain privileges and aspirations. That sense of entitlement is rooted in an education system that was hijacked by agenda-laden teachers, professors and administrators masquerading their ulterior motives with doctrines that promote “fairness” and “inclusivity.” So it should come as no surprise that liberal commencement speakers make up the disproportionate number of keynote speakers at graduation ceremonies at America’s top post-secondary institutions. According to The Washington Examiner, “In its annual report, the Young America’s Foundation revealed that in the top 50 schools as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, liberal speakers outnumbered conservatives nine to one. Among the top 10: All speakers were liberal. In the top 100 it was six to one.”
Which message is easier to sell — the one that encourages character development, hard work, individual Liberty and accepting responsibility for your own actions, or the one that espouses victimization? The latter is the most effective way to radically transform social norms, which is what progressives accomplished through educational “reforms.” Schools have the right to invite whomever they want. But the fact that the overwhelming number of speakers are leftists exemplifies the biggest issue with modern day’s academia: It’s not about “equality” and “acceptance.” If it were, you’d see a lot more conservatives sending graduates on their merry way.
